The latter uses algorithms to detect and adjust spacing according to predefined rules while manual involves adjusting each character individually until the desired look is achieved. In any case, it’s important to remember that a small adjustment can make a big difference in terms of visual clarity and legibility.

Furthermore, good kerning is essential when working on large headlines as even tiny inconsistencies can be noticed from far away; whereas if you’re focusing on body copy it might not be necessary at all since people tend to read those texts more closely than they do headlines or titles. Ultimately, whether you should kern your text depends entirely on its purpose but when in doubt it's always best to err on the side of caution and give your font some extra love!
In conclusion, although not every font needs kerning due its pre-calculated spaces, it remains an important part of typography nonetheless; as without proper adjustments the whole layout could become unbalanced or illegible depending on how much emphasis you wish your text has or what size are you working with respectively.

All of these elements need to work together harmoniously in order for your finished product to be effective.
